Description:
Loft living is a movement that began in Manhattan with the recovery of old industrial spaces; warehouses and abandoned factories in New York City were converted into residences for a certain intellectual elite. As the movement grew, the loft ceased to be just a space for artistic production and took on new meaning as an emblem of the freedom of a new generation. This signified a change of direction from the migration towards suburban zones and brought about a resurgence of urban residences. Today, loft living has become a luxury that few, including many pioneers of the movement, can afford. With more than 800 full colour photographs, this volume is a compilation of more than 50 recent examples of international, contemporary lofts. Projects range from the traditionally remodeled industrial buildings to old farmhouses and garages transformed into modern living spaces.
