Cases In Online Interview Research

Description: In an era of constrained research budgets, online interviewing opens up immense possibilities: A researcher can literally conduct a global study without ever leaving home. But more than a decade after these technologies started to become available, there are still few studies on how to utilize online interviews in research. This book provides 10 cases of research conducted using online interviews, with data collected through text-based, videoconferencing, multichannel meeting, and immersive 3-D environments. Each case is followed by two commentaries: one from another expert contributor, the second from Janet Salmons as editor. A open-access companion website provides sample syllabi, assignment ideas, links to other work by the book's contributors, and guidelines for utilizing the book's E-Interview Research Framework.

Author Biography: Janet Salmons has served on the graduate faculty of the Capella University School of Business and Technology since 1999. She was a recipient of a Harold Abel Distinguished Faculty Award for the 2011-2012 year. She develops and teaches courses in leadership and team leadership, offers faculty development, serves as dissertation mentor for doctoral learners and as doctoral Colloquium faculty. She is a scholar-practitioner and consultant through her company, Vision2Lead, Inc. Recent publications include Online Interviews in Real Time (2010) from Sage Publications. She edited the Handbook of Research on Electronic Collaboration and Organizational Synergy with Lynn Wilson (2009), published by IGI Global. This collection contains 50 peer reviewed chapters from researchers from 20 countries and diverse disciplines. She has contributed chapters to books including: Lexicon of Online and Distance Education (2010), the Encyclopedia of Information Technology Curriculum Integration (2007) and Student Plagiarism in an Online World Problems and Solutions (2007). Dr. Salmons is a frequent presenter for face-to-face, online and virtual world seminars and conferences. Janet completed her doctorate in Interdisciplinary Studies at the Union Institute and University with research in online collaboration in leadership education. She earned an MA in Social Policy Studies from Empire State College, State University of New York, and a BS in Adult Education from Cornell University's College of Human Ecology.
