In Saturday Sweets Katie Morag and Liam can't decide which sweets to give Granny Island as a present but they do decide that the best way to make up their minds is to taste all the sweets themselves. In The Pony and the Hamster Katie Morag is thrilled when Granny Island gets a pony called Eriska, but Katie and her friend Agnes soon find out that looking after a pet is a big responsibility. And in The Camping Holiday Katie Morag and the Big Boy Cousins find themselves stranded by the tide but luckily Eriska is on hand to save the day. Children who have enjoyed the numerous Katie Morag picture books when they were younger will be delighted to see that Struay's endearing heroine is back in three new island adventures for older readers.
Author Biography:
Mairi Hedderwick was born in Renfrewshire, Scotland in 1939. She later returned to the mainland to attend the Edinburgh College of Art and then taught for a while. She married and had two children, Mark and Tamara, and in 1962, the family moved to Coll. There, in a house with no electricity, water only available from a well, and a two mile walk to their nearest neighbour, she lived for ten years. The Katie Morag books are loosely based on her life there. The family moved back to the mainland in 1973 to comparative luxury in Fort William, Inverness. By then Mairi had begun illustrating books for other authors, the first published in 1972, soon followed by many others.
