Ireland Video Workbook

Description: This workbook accompanies a video cassette for students at elementary level which looks at Ireland's contribution to the English speaking world. Among the topics discussed are the geography and national character of Ireland, its capital, its music and its history, including the history of the Church and the fight for independence. Some of the industries of Ireland, such as the production of Guinness, whiskey and Waterford crystal, and its literature, including that of Yeats, Wilde and Joyce are discussed. Popular Irish sports, such as horse racing, Gaelic football and hurling, are considered and information on famous Irish people abroad is included. The workbook contains the tapescript of the video commentary, and aims to check and reinforce students' understanding.
