Mediante veintitrés cartas dirigidas a su amigo y confidente Germįn Arciniegas, Emma Reyes asumió el arduo ejercicio de narrar los giros y adversidades que vivió durante su infancia. En este paķs, su nombre es mįs conocido por el eco de las voces de artistas y humanistas que la conocieron en el extranjero y regresaron maravillados por su talento y su carįcter. Estamos en mora de otorgarle el reconocimiento que merece dentro de la historia del arte colombiano. Through twenty-three letters addressed to her friend and confidant Germįn Arciniegas, Emma Reyes took on the arduous task of narrating the twists and turns she experienced during her childhood. These texts, written between 1969 and 1997, masterfully articulate a personal account that evokes the context of the Cundiboyacence highlands in the third decade of the 20th century. Emma Reyes (Bogotį, Colombia, 1919/Bordeaux, France, 2003) was an artist who traveled the world with her drawings and paintings. Most of her legacy is preserved outside Colombia. In this country, her name is best known through the echoes of the voices of artists and humanists who knew her abroad and returned amazed by her talent and character. We are long overdue to grant her the recognition she deserves within the history of Colombian art.
