ACTIVITIES FOR SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING:DEVELOPING SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL COMPETENCES IN THE ELT CLASSROOM (IDEAS IN ACTION)
Ideas in Action: Activities for Social-Emotional Learning aims to guide language teachers
as they integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) into their practice and pedagogy. Making
sure that learners feel safe, valued, and respected helps them to feel more comfortable which,
in turn, can enhance their willingness to participate and experiment with language, make
mistakes and develop a growth mindset. The purpose of this book is to help teachers gain a
deeper understanding of what SEL actually entails, why it is so important, and how they can
develop both their own and their learners' social-emotional skills.
Activities for Developing Learning Strategies:
offers insight into the five SEL concepts from CASEL's framework (self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making)
includes practical strategies and tips for developing and integrating the five specific SEL areas with these target groups in mind: Primary, Teens, and Adults
provides a range of activities for each SEL concept as well as a section devoted specifically to SEL and the teacher
Additional features and resources include:
ideas for differentiating and extending the activities for different teaching scenarios
photocopiable / projectable / downloadable worksheets for many of the activities
Methodology meets practical classroom usage with ready-to-use photocopiable materials.
Methodology meets practice. In this award-winning series we set out to help the teacher make the connection between the theory and micro-strategies laid out in the first section by creating lessons with accompanying materials. Teachers can use these lessons immediately and build on what they have learnt by creating their own materials which integrate the methodological focus of the book.
