The sign of the white and blue propeller circle has signified BMW since the 1930s: sporty, dynamic, radiating brilliance, with timeless elegance and countless successes in the German touring car championships, as well as in Formula 2 and Formula 1 racing. The mention of BMW brings to mind legendary cars like the pre-war 328, the 507 from the mid-1950s, or the M1 of the late 1970s. But the name BMW also stands for attempts to lend mobility to a wide class of buyers, for example with the Isetta and the 700. In a historical overview, this book first tells the legendary history of the Bavarian automobile firm and goes back to its beginning, the traces of which are lost in the darkness of the First World War. Following this, individual models are introduced by means of articles and excellent color photography.
Author Biography:
Rainer W. Schlegelmilch studied photography design in Munich and in 1964 opened a studio for advertising photography. Even during his studies, visits to car races led him to discover his passion for motor sports and fast cars. Hartmut Lehbrink's studies of English and German philology took him to Genf, Munster, and Bonn. He has written numerous contributions for publications including auto motor und sport and ADAC-Motorwelt. Jochen von Osterroth first worked as a cartoonist before becoming a squadron leader in the German Luftwaffe (air force) and then a 'late' art student in Mainz. In 1971 he joined World News and became a Grand Prix reporter for rallye racing, RTL, sid, dpa, and daily newspapers. Together with the driver Harald Ertl, in 1975 he had his first experience as team leader and sponsor coordinator of the smallest Formula 1 team of all time.
