ILARIA PORCIANI teaches Contemporary History and the History of Historiography at the University of Bologna, Italy. Her books include L'Archivio Storico Italiano'. (1979); La Festa Della Nazione (1997) (edited) Universita Ieri e Oggi(1994); Universita e Scienza Nazionale (2000), Famiglia e Nazione nel Lungo Ottocento (2006); and History Women (2004, with Mary O'Dowd). She is presently studying European history museums. LUTZ RAPHAEL is Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Trier, Germany and has also taught at the University of Darmstadt and studied in History, French and Sociology at the universities of Munster and Paris. His books include Die Erben von Bloch und Febvre (1994); Recht und Ordnung. Herrschaft durch Verwaltung im 19.Jahrhunderts (2000); Geschichtswissenschaft im Zeitalter der Extreme (2003), and (edited) Klassiker der Geschichtswissenschaft (2006).
