Description: These colourful readers offer a mixture of adapted classics, specially-written stories as well as a collection of non-fiction titles, Real Lives*, where children from different countries around the world tell us about their daily lives and culture.
Each book comes with an audio recording of the text, read by a native speaker, provided either on CD (and online in MP3 format) or by download only (online in MP3 format and via the ELI-Link App for smartphones and tablets). The books are divided into short chapters with a glossary at the foot of each page where needed. A variety of activities before and after each chapter aid comprehension and enrich the language learning process, while a selection of useful dossiers provide additional information about the author and cultural context of the text. A brief 'Test Yourself' section of activities concludes each book.
These readers are available in 3 stages, graded according to the number of headwords used, and correspond to levels A1-B1 of the CEFR:
Stage One - 600 words (A1)
Stage Two - 800 words (A2)
Stage Three - 1000 words (B1)
*The Real Lives titles feature: an introduction to the country with interesting facts and information, authentic photos, and tasks to encourage critical thinking, cultural awareness and build on creative and team skills. Each of the Real Lives titles has been produced in cooperation with a specific NGO to which ELI donates part of the proceeds for relevant development and aid projects.
