Author Biography:
William Buskist (Ph.D., 1981, Brigham Young University) began his academic career in the early 1980s as a laboratory researcher investigating human competition and cooperation. About a decade later, his experiences teaching an introductory psychology course led him to wonder about how he might become a more effective teacher. That question led him to the research literature on teaching effectiveness, and ultimately to a drastic shift in both his teaching and research efforts. For the past 12 years, he has been studying and teaching about the qualities and behaviors characteristic of 'master teachers.' Recently, he has become interested in the assessment of teaching effectiveness. He is President-Elect of Division 2 (Society for the Teaching of Psychology) of the American Psychological Association. Stephen F. Davis (Ph.D., Texas Christian University) took an early retirement from Emporia State University and currently serves as Visiting Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Texas Wesleyan University. His career moved from that of laboratory researcher to a fascination with the teaching of psychology and an involvement with undergraduate students and education. His commitment and passion to the teaching of psychology is illustrated by his service in various offices within the American Psychological Assocation and his work with Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology. He has authored, coauthored, and coedited a number of textbooks and works devoted to the teaching of psychology.
